Hello i have been involved in car audio for about a year now so i am not new to audio concepts and things like that. Ever since i have hooked my computer up to my reciever instead of using computer speakers (becuase they sounded horrible), i have been using my once hometheater sound setup alot more for music. In short i have realized how much it sucks compared to my car. So i have decided to upgrade. As of right now the only upgrade i have made is that an extra 15inch woofer that i had in my car and am running it off a 350watt plate amp. I havent changed its enclosure yet. It is still in a 2.5 cubic foot sealed mdf box. I just ordered the parts express br-1 speakers just to tide me over until i do a real diy speaker set. I have a few questions about what kinda speaker i would want to pair with a sub like that. I really like the look of towers, but would i need the added bass response of towers with a sub? I want speakers that have very strong midbass (ie 80-300 htz). I dont like bright tweeters, and i like detailed midrange ( I like to hear fingers slide over guitar stings). I have been looking at the proac 2.5 clone but i couldnt justify spending that kinda money on my first home speaker uprgrade. Also the speakers must have an impedance of 8ohm becuase my reciever wont go lower, so i guess no mtms. Any suggestions, comments, criticizm are welcome. Thanks
Steven

hello stevens
hello
I am halojoy
I like
both my Focal 4" mids - Fs 64Hz, 90dB
and my Audax 5.25" mids - Fs 68Hz, 92dB
Especially the Focals Mids are very detailed.
I hear a lot of fingers gliding on the strings
as I listen to a lot of music done with acoustical instruments
mainly JAZZ - they can play!
also nice to be able to hear the breething in
of the singers
I know our friend planet10 will have some
good suggestions.
I think you have said pretty well what you want.
What your goal is.
That makes it easier to answer.
Cheers
/halo - the midrange spender 😎
- the tweeter and sub are secondary concerns

What did you decide on?
Is your speaker system running now?
Can you post some info about it.

steven why not try a open baffle design from what I read in the forums here they sound good in the mid bass region

2.5 cu. ft is mighty small for a 15". do you get a lot of boom?
if you are not considering systems under 8ohms and you are on a budget (translates to few cheap drivers) i would consider 2 options.
a) a line source using tang bands u get TBs real cheap so you can expriement with different configs I like push push with 4 TB 2 in front and 2 in the rear
b) a 6" 2 way but let your 15" handle 100Hz and lower. there are many systems out there that can do this GR research, Audire, etc....
BTW what is your budget (i usually spend 50% of drivers and 50% on cabinet and XO).
