Hello,
By chance, I now own 3 Altec 604, all marked as 604e. From left to right, the first was bought separately, and the other two as a set.
Now this where it gets interesting, going from left to right, once again, the first one shows:
- 21184-2 cone
- 391404 stamped on the back
- AL 14 at the top (not sure what this is about, but the others are marked as AL 75)
- and take a good look at the horn wall thickness (you will note that is slightly thicker than the other horns)
The second one:
- 21184-2 cone again
- 391024 stamp on the side
- AL 75 as mentioned earlier
- (what appear to be) slimmer horn wall
Third one gets a bit twisted:
- 23979-2 cone (which from my limited research points to be belong to the 604-8G?)
- same 391024 stamp
If anybody more knowledgeable could explain what is going on here I would be forever grateful.
Thank you!
Edit: I've also cross-posted this on the AK forums.

Side note, I would ideally want to make something out of this situation. I've measured all of them, showing normal Ohm values. Only problem is, with the two I bought as a pair, one of them is missing one ring of the compression driver assembly. The seller never mentioned this when I bought them, and I plan to open a dispute. I have not opened the compression driver, out of fear there might actually be a good diaphragm inside and not wanting to just look for no reason, but wonder, if there actually is, any chance to save it? Could I simply take the ring from the third one and try to mount it on? Obviously, what I guess is the wiring, probably has be resoldered somewhere, but honestly at this point I might just be way off as I'm mostly clueless.
