What? The base stoppers? Whether they're needed or not depends on how clean the layout is. With MJ1502x's, if the pcb is as clean as Fotios' is, then you don't need them. If you'll have wires running all over the place you probably will. If you've got anything in there that can make the output stage less stable - long leads running to the reservoir caps, more than two channels sharing the supply, or any sort of rail modulation you'll need them as well.
As for using the full-size driver transistor, one has to wonder why Fotios used the lower power version in the first place.
