Greetings from downtown Washington, DC! For those of you who know DC, I am from the Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle neighborhoods, the fun parts of this city. I am an oddity here- a true geek surrounded by lawyers, politicos, and economists. In my day job, I design small visual sensors for robots, both ground and air.
I came to this forum on the recommendation of a person who replied to a post I made at Audio Asylum, where I am a member under the same moniker (geof). In short, I am looking to build a good amplifier to drive my B&W N802 loudspeakers. I figure that since I have access to a full electronics lab and am electronics savvy, I can save a few bucks by making it myself. I think I'll be seeing some of you in the amplifier section.
Cheers

There are quite a few people that will say that DIY is not cheaper than retail due to the number of "experiments" along the way.
Welcome!

Welcome to the forum Geof. I'm sure you'll find in enjoyable.

Not to mention all the spares you buy along the way.purplepeople said:There are quite a few people that will say that DIY is not cheaper than retail due to the number of "experiments" along the way.

Hopefully...
Hopefully the cost of rebuilding/tweaking the amp circuit will be less than the cost of purchasing amps until I am satisfied!!!
Message receive, though. But, the journey is more important than the destination! 🙂

Hi Geof!
I am also a new member to this forum. I wanted to say I really love the area you live in, visited last summer, a little of everything there. I've been a DIYer in the speaker/subwoofer realm for awhile, but would like to dive into amps/preamps, and could probably use any advise you'd like to give.

Welcome Geof!
We big boys like to play with expensive toys, like Diy..Once hooked there's no turning back(aka beware all those who enter through these gates!)

DC/ DIY
Geoff, you will find that this is not cheaper, but that it is more satsifying and more fun. That said, I lived in DC for 7 years and moved out to get away from those politico's. Good move. But I love to visit, and its a great area. Have a beer at Milli & Al's for me! (may have spelled wrong...long time)
