Hey all... Long time listener, first time caller 🙂
Getting bit hard by the diy bug... Hoping to build some amps and speakers to increase my quality of listening in my work office. I have a decent JBL studio series HiFi/home theater, and I'm hoping to build stuff that will noticeably exceed the listening experience I enjoy with that setup.
Anyone local to me in surrey that knows of any good places fto source drivers and parts for amps?
Thanks!!

Welcome again.
I have given you Bob's number, that's a good place to start. Why not tell us what you have now so we have reference point.

Thanks Cal,
I did call Bob, and you were bang on with what you said - he seems like a great guy to deal with. The stuff he has on hand is a bit rich for my blood (for the moment anyway) but he was very friendly and graciously offered to import whatever I was looking for from the US sites (mcm, parts express, etc.), saving the crazy shipping and customs charges.
My current listening environment is made up of JBL Studio series speakers - 2 x S310 mains, 4 x S26 side and rear surrounds, the S-center and a JBL PB12 subwoofer (which sounds as though it will offer a tonne of diy fun with constant repairs and tweaks required!!!).
All are fed by a Yamaha Rx-v1600.
It wasn't always in this state... In fact, its finally in a full JBL state after 13 years of evolution... I originally purchased a 5.1 setup with just the s310 mains, the center and s26 rears, backed up by a Kenwood 103sw sub. Then after upgrading the amp to 7.1 I purchased two jbl Northridge e10s for side surrounds as the studio series had been discontinued. The kenwood ripped itself apart after 13 years of heavy use, so on this just-passed Christmas day I ordered a Polk audio psw125 from future shop at a ridiculous bargain. It played through my new years party, but for a 12, didn't seem near as capable as the Kenwood 10". Through same odd chance of fate, I happened along a listing on eBay for a set of jbl s26s, an s-center and the jbl pb12. I travelled to wenatchee WA to pick them up, for a ludicrous $200 (and treated the wife and kids to a fun night in a hotel and some fabulous site seeing through Stephens pass.)
I returned the polk sub to future shop and now, after 13 years, I have the matched 7 channel studio series jbl setup which I think performs well, and has made me extremely happy over the last decade through its various forms 🙂
I plan on fixing the Kenwood (just needs a new driver) - which was kind of the spawn of my diy audio bug. Once I got looking for a replacement driver, my head was sent spinning as I looked through parts express and other sites.
For my eventual custom build here, I plan on building book shelf sized speakers and utilizing the Kenwood sub for bass extension. Its a fantastic sub in my mind... And can't wait until its living and breathing again 🙂
I had planned on building my own amp for my custom build, but ended up picking up a tda1514 based powerflex 5 channel amp on craigslist just this morning (see my thread on the chip amp forum). Its only 50 watt, which means my bookshelf build will be small (which suits me fine if the quality is there).
