Heimdall's Trumpets

I had the opportunity to hear James Kelsey's speakers at VSAC 2003. James is a sculptor who also enjoys great stereo sound. He carved the enclosure out of solid basalt, set it on top of a stand made out of 1/4" plate steel. Adire Audio of Lynnwood, WA designed the crossover for him. The result is quite outstanding. The speakers were being driven by a high quality tube amp and James was playing some pretty bass heavy drum music. I placed my hand on the enclosure and......nothing. Not a thing. A totally dead enclosure. Quite impressive. Next came the vocals. Clear and natural. I could have listened for hours. Check out his website.

Surprising enough, somebody did move them so they could demo the other speakers. I stepped out of the room so I missed it. I can imagine 3 or 4 guys grunting like animals trying to slide them 6 inches. The best part was watching James. Apparently this was the first time he got to hear them at full tilt on a good amp. He looked like a proud papa that just had a baby!
