Heatsink info

Hello, I have s a general question about heat sinks. I do hvac work for a living and I came across some old abandoned/dead vfd’s (variable frequent drives) and the light went off in my head. These things use decent size heat sinks to cool the scr’s which have good amounts of current flowing through them. I’ve pictured them below. Can these be used did a custom chassis build? The backs of all are flat and obviously a couple of them need to be further disassembled but before I waste anymore time, I thought I would ask. Thank you guys in advance.

Hi, they appear to be a good size. What is the length?
Ideally the fins would sit vertically for better heat dissipation.
They could be cut in half and sit the halves side by side.

You could also build a tower type chassis, one heat sink per side.
If you're not building a high power or class A amp, you could get away with the heat sinks fins sitting horizontally.

This is great news! It will definitely be a class A amp. I have boards for an Aleph 2 100wpc but don’t know if I trust building it. I got them off eBay a while ago. Now I just go through the store. The large heatsink I have measure 19Lx6wx2-3/4t with fins spaced 3/8” and the base is about 5/8” thick. The next smaller measures 6-1/2”l x 6-1/4”w x 3-3/4”t with fins spaced 3/16” and the base is also about 5/8” thick. The last one is 4-3/4”w x 12”l x 3 3/4” t with fins spaced almost 1/2” and the base is about 1/4” thick.

Go buy a pair or 2 of VFET TOKIN THF-51s transistors and build Nelson Pass's VFET phase 3, should be available in the fall. Watanabe-san on Ebay will sell you as many as you want, you will be in the unique position of REDUCING the size of the heatsink.
