hard to get time coherency

I am coupling a 6 inch woofer with dome tweeter at 2khz 2nd order butterworth. but I find that the depth of the tweeter relative to woofer is critical. How critical is it at this crossover frequency?

I think the reason is that the waves from the tweeter are not coming at the same time as the woofer.
