Hmmm. Could be. I presumed he added coffee as in a Coffee Stout.
I think I used a pound of coffee for a 5 gallon batch and cold steeped the coffee in a half gallon of water for a couple of days before brew day. I added the coffee near the end of the boil. No bitterness. Nice background coffee flavor.

I added a lot of things to the batch in my brewing days but never coffee. Sounds like it might be a good flavour. Too bad my primary is now my recycle bin. 🙂
Hmm let me see if I have the story of the pumpkin right.....So when Jack was living on the earth, he lied, drank, stole, and deceived his way though life. One day Jack was to meet his maker but instead met with the devil. He managed to trick the devil into giving him 10 more years. After the 10 years was up, he tricked the devil again into another 10 years. This time the deal included that the devil cannot ever take his soul to hell. So after 10 more years of lying and cheating was up, Jack was to finally meet his maker but heaven would not let him in because he was wretched. So he went to the gates of hell but the devil kindly reminded him of the deal they had and that he could not take his soul. The devil then gave Jack an ember of hell, and placed it inside a hollow gourd so that Jack could have a way to light his path as he forever trespasses the nether world. On the day of All Hallows Eve or Samhain when the spirits of the dead can mingle with the living, Jack's lantern can be seen in the dark, lighting his way through purgatory.

The celebration of death,
Death being the friend of the fallen, the reaper that takes a soul so they don't writhe in infinite agony.
Just for fun.
