Hi there,
Whilst working up the case for my new paraffed amp I accidently dropped one of my precious TT21's, it landed on its top cap, which now wiggles with a slight grating sound. The vacume is compromised as there is a slowly creeping white developing from the top cap. End result dead TT21.
These are a bastard to get hold of, even if you can afford them. Any one got a single spare which they want to sell. If not I might have to consider redesigning the circuit to use something a little more affordable.

I was thinking of that. The only draw back is that the KT88 isn't rated for as high dissapation so it wont last quite as long.
I was hoping that the TT21's would nearly never need replacing because I was running them so lightly.

What was a TT21? Never heard of it. Whatever it is you probably just doubled the value of the remaining one. It is very risky designing equipment around only one-of's no matter how rad the sought after outcome, but I guess you know this now.
🙁
poor shoog... and just the day after st patties
it is always sad to see a bottle die -- especially one as scarce as that

A KT88 with a top cap. The internal construction should be identical.
You used to be able to buy them from Retrovox, but they're out of stock 🙁
Thanks all for the sympathy.
The reason I was designing around the TT21 was because the transmitter I junked to make my amp had two in it. Hence before this tradgedy the tubes were for free. The actual sonics of the tube are relatively immaterial in its application as a CCS.
Dave I was going to get in touch with your good self in order to check if you had any squirelled away - appears not !
I will probe the Radio Ham field to see if anything turns up.

Hi there,
Great lead on the dutch source. Don't think they will come much cheaper. However the good news is that a local PA repair man has a pair of slightly used TT21's (4 hours on each). The bad news is they will cost €90.00, but I don't think I will get them much cheaper, and at least they don't have to come via the post with all the attached risks.

I was looking at the TT22, but there only marginally cheaper, so I don't think its worth the hassle.
