GRS 10SW-4 and 8SW-4

Hello,

I'm searching for a best price/performance subwoofers at about 50 euros that a shipped around the Europe (Lithuania). This is what I found.

GRS 10SW-4 - 10" Subwoofer 35 euros

GRS 8SW-4 - 8" Subwoofer 20 euros

Maybe someone can tell me if they are good investment or I should choose this alternative.

W 200 S - 4 Ohm | Visaton 55 euros

I'm thinking about GRS 8SW-4. But I have no idea if they gonna work in BR enclosure. I have about 2x140 wrms @ 4ohm. I have limited experience with Hornresp, so I can't actually do a proper enclosure build with it.

The GRS 8SW-4 does not work in a vented enclosure, because it has Qts = 0.88. Something around 0.4 is preferable. The Visaton W200S-4 is a good woofer for vented enclosures. You can design such enclosures with WinISD, which is easier to learn than Hornresp.

Maybe there is explanation on how Qms, Qes and Qts impact enclosure types? Like you said "Qts around 0.4 works with vented enclosures". Can't find anymore guide on how to use Hornresp. Maybe someone can share the link?

Hi Entas,
Have a look at soundimports.eu, they got good prices for GRS speakers, and shipping was 11 euro to Latvia, I think will be same for LT
Also building a sub based on Radiotehnika SW-350 case, got few for almost free, now considering putting GRS 10SW-4 there (44L vented box tuned at 35Hz)

Hi All,

FYI:

b🙂

There's several [once] popular basic formulas with this one of the most popular:

Vb = 20*Vas*Qts'^3.3

Fb = 0.42*Fs*Qts'^-0.96

Qts' = Qts + any added series resistance [Rs]: HiFi Loudspeaker Design

T/S max flat vented alignment [0.707 Qtb]: Vb = Vas, Fb = Fs where Qts' = ~ 0.403.

Lower Qts' tunes higher, ergo higher Qts' tunes lower with an Extended Bass Shelf [EBS] alignment's 0.62 Qts' the ~accepted limit, though I've tinkered with up to a 2.46 Qts' with frequency shaping EQ, so while vented T/S theoretically ends at a 0.707 Qts', it's not a given, just normally not practical.
