Group Buy: LSK389 (Feb 2010)

Folks,

This group buy is for the Linear Systems LSK389 Low Noise Dual JFet.

I found out that I practically live in the backyard of one of the distributors for Linear Systems. I can get to their warehouse in 5 minutes by car. Some of you have expressed interest in the TO-71 version, B grade. This is rated at 6 - 12 ma Idss. There was a previous successful group buy started by Luvdunhill and some are keen to buy some more.

It will take 100+ to even sniff a discount. This would be my first group buy and I think for now it would be best to gauge interest to see if we have the numbers so that we meet the following conditions:

1. You end up paying less for it than if you had purchased them yourself.
2. I do NOT lose a penny on this. It would be my last group buy as my wife would kill me. I'm on a tight budget right now.
3. I will need to charge for the expense of shipping & materials. Also, Paypal fees. I helped Uriah Dailey with the last LDR group buy and shipping was under $3 for both domestic and international orders.
4. I am a fighter for good causes, so I will add a small amount for donation to diyAudio. I know for some this leaves a bitter taste, but alas, this site may get you these parts cheaper than if you bought them yourself. If a poor guy like me can donate, well....
5. I like beer, so for my work, I would like to come out a bit ahead on this.
6. Possibly, we will have to set min purchase quantity to meet our goal

If all this has not scared you away, then I will be posting a Google doc (with additional conditions 😉 )in the next day or so to gauge interest and I hope we can reach our numbers. I would like to try this little beauty. But just one of these buggers cost $7 and some change. Ouch!!! If you have questions, please post away or PM me.

If the numbers look good, I'll contact the distributor to make sure they have enough on hand...and with funds in hand...pick them up and start shipping sometime in February, probably mid to late February.

eddelarue - I will ask. I didn't see it on their website, but I've heard it doesn't hurt to ask!😉

cviller - I spent some time just throwing some rough figures together and if I set a requirement of 4 pcs., the delivered cost may run somewhere around $33 to $35 if we get over the 100 pc price break. I thought maybe cheaper, but looking at luvdunhill's thread, I almost left out the Texas state 8.25% sales tax.

I guess part of this depends on what is the popular quantity to buy for each member. I'll look at it closer tomorrow night or Saturday. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

well, I was thinking about starting up the group buy as well, but I was going to wait for the single p-ch parts. You will be able to negotiate a much better price if you open this up to all the various parts. I was able to for example get a flat price across all Idss grades. Next time you talk with Trendsetter, ask them about the p-ch parts. They know I'm waiting on those, so more pressure cannot hurt.

p-channel

Are you talking about these?

Wait or move forward?

Hi luvdunhill,

I jumped in because I think some members were getting itchy to get more of the LSK389 and perhaps they thought you had no interest in doing another. I'm 5 minutes from Trendsetter's warehouse, so I thought I would do everyone a favor.

I'll send you a PM and we can chat about what most members think is the best strategy at this point and see if we can get LS to get back to us on the P channel parts. Since you did such a great job on the first buy, I don't mind if you proceed. No ego to bruise here. 🙂 We'll discuss.

I hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears

Luvdunhill,

I've read the message 4 times, but Stacy at Trendsetter says that per Linear Systems, LSJ174 is now in stock. I'm not familiar with their date code. Can someone decipher? Is that September 2009?

Per Linear:

WE HAVE A P CHANNEK

J174 IN STOCK. THEY ARE LEADED PARTS D/C

99XX.
