I got these recently for a very good price and am very impressed with them. There is no information on the net about them (well very very little). I understand that they have the bass units used in the LS35A (Kef SP1003) and a Coles tweeter.

Dave. Thanks for the links, I have in fact seen those, but they are not about the model I have. I believe that mine might be the "Phoenix" model. I would like to know what their specs are. They are pretty hard to drive and need a very meaty amp with lots of current. If they get it they sound superb.

No question that the tweeter in the photo is the Coles 3000. In Dave's reference (hifiloudspeakers) one of the posts correctly identifies it. According to Colin Royle (?) Coles bought the tooling for the HF1300 from Celestion and then marketed it. They did alter the faceplate (for easier mounting from the outside I guess). It sounds like the earlier version of your speakers might have had the ITT/STC/ Coles 4001. Higher frequency response i.e. over 20k but not used much below 6k. If they then moved to the HF1300/Coles3000 then that was probably a good move. It can work from around 2.5k but only up to about 14/15k Hz. So as you get older you will not notice the difference ha ha!! Cheers, Jonathan
I am intrigued by the bass loading technique used on the Griffin Studio Electronic 85. I can only assume that the internal B200 is to acoustically add mass to the B139?

The B200 acts as a “valve” to the upper chamber. From the block diagram it has an infrasonic filter in front of its amplifier.
It could act like an isobarik driver (at LF only) or it could do something else. It cold be an active version of the second chamber loaded by an aperiodic vent (ala Dyna A35/some Naims).

Ah! Thanks! Thought darkmatter had some............Altec fiddled with these, though described it to me as an active version of a drone cone [PR], so for now going with adjustable isobaric.
