Greetings, I seek anyone here that has experience with AUDIOMOBILE gear from the late 70's... Especially needed is schematics and any possible info I can use to get this SA 1000 amp 100% again. Anybody have GEAR?... Might be interested here... an easy SWAP would be nice. It's currently FULLY operational BUT upon hard gain and EQ settings I get a SQUEAL, high pitched, and also motorboating from the BASS end. Only ONE channel of the amp is doing this, the other 5 channels seem fine. NOT the EQ at this point, I THINK its a single channel in one amp thats the culprit.... FLYING BLIND here.... LOL. LMK... Thanks BDBD/2022
Those problems are often due to a bad shield ground or a defect in the circuit that prevents ground loops.
Greetings Perry, hope you are feeling well and getting stronger each and every day. Thanks for chiming in. I will RE CHECK my RCA inputs and swap to see if thats the issue. If it still motorboats on the same channel then theres that BUT if it moves to the OTHER side.... OK.... Check GROUNDS. shields. And also a possible internal issue in regards to ground loop isolation. I will INVESTIGATE and see what happens... Its DAYTIME now... Time to make some NOISE...LOL.... Be in touch. BDBD/2022
Man, I tell ya... after what seems like weeks I FINALLY was FORCED to get to doing the RAT work.... uggggggggg.... well I isolated the "problem" to the right front door... a intermittent ground?... Forced to remove the door panel cause it was not the 6x9 speakers.... TWEETER.... so off came the panel and tweeter... Looked OK BUT the GROUND disappeared.... OK.... I noticed a small area on the INSULATOR UNDER the tweeter connector. MY GOODNESS.... OK.... BEND the TAB... isolate and insulate and reinstall and TA DAAAA..... LOL.... a Speaker short caused CROSSTALK, MOTORBOATING, High pitched SQUEAL and only when run hard.... A TEENY little tweeter defect.... Ugggggggg the GODS of AUTOSOUND.... Love me..... LONG TIME..... Uggggggggggggggggg Its working now... BDBD/2022
I have a FULLY OPERATIONAL AUDIOMOBILE 6 channel RACK Full Range amplification system fed by a SP-300 AUDIOMOBILE EQ, in 2022..... yay.... BDBD/2022
I've seen that when the non-bridging terminal was shorted. It, in effect, caused a ground loop. I don't know if this applies to your situation. With a tweeter, it could likely happen with the signal wire as well since a passive crossover component could add to the variables.
Any pics? Please..I have a FULLY OPERATIONAL AUDIOMOBILE 6 channel RACK Full Range amplification system fed by a SP-300 AUDIOMOBILE EQ, in 2022..... yay.... BDBD/2022
Greetings Perry, Thanks for your valued input. I managed to THERMAL an amp SO back to the drawing board... FANS!!! ALSO I rearranged the amps so the COOLER RUNNING of the three is in the CENTER. Hotter runners on the outsides. THINK it helps. I also added 4 HUGE APPLE G-5 computer fans i had laying around. They work great to move plenty air and not too noisy. Have them running slow. I am nearly done, need to picture frame the whole thing THEN .... see what happens.... 6 months down the road they will be removed in exchamge for them three ADS 2001 amps I have.... I BLEW UP a ZAPCO amp I own I THINK because the powersource puts out 53 volts.... not 30. Uggggggggg Its a SPECIAL power source too I discovered... Ugggggg a HOT RODDED Zapco from them days. Learning the hard way here.... a lonely place. CURRENTLY trying to RESURRECT a MUNTZ AM-160 Equalizer Amplifier. I really do not want to bother you BUT you might be hearing from me in the EMAIL.... Head scratchier here.... RELIC... no schematic... Ugggg..... Learning the hard way here. Hope you are feeling better.... DI've seen that when the non-bridging terminal was shorted. I am at the point now where nothing is LOOSE or INCORRECT or BLOWN. Everythings straight now, what will BLOW appears to have done so. Took some nice long drives and managed to THERMAL SHUT DOWN one of the SA-1000's so FANS were in order. Added them below the amps to blow the air up and away over the top of the PICTURE FRAME I will be making soon. Leave a gap on TOP for hot air to EXIT and I will add some VENTS in the back of the trunk interior panel to facilitate fresh air re-circulation.... THUS FAR its running much cooler, no thermal.... I have yet to run it through the MINISTRY test..... successfully that is.... SOON.... MUST PASS the MINISTRY TEST..... to get MY stamp of approval. God Bless Rock and Roll.... Jesus built my car.... A very nice rack.
What we talking about TO3 semiconductors?
A pair only, i think into amp's power supply.

Early use of T0-3 transistor type here. Power source transistors. Heat Sinks are overkill as these really never get hot... Output transistors... another story. They run hot at 3.5 ohm I have found.
I blew a SA-1000 power transistor. My goodness, same amp now has blown 2 output and now a power transistor. Wish I could get it to work without blowing up when I blast it. It ran over 24 hours on low volume.... Once in car and test..... BOOM... again.... Uggggggg Back to the drawing board. LOL. BDBD/2022
There is a problem if the transistors are getting hot and not transferring that heat to the heatsink.
Hi Perry, as I noted I ran this amp HARD at 2 ohm load till it thermaled THEN I removed it and reinstalled it into the Firebird alongside the two other SA-1000's I have. This particular amp has popped 2 output transistors and now a POWER transistor. Cant seem to find anything in regards to this power transistor SOLITRON 0602016 8101. Looking all day here.LOL.... insanity. There is a problem if the transistors are getting hot and not transferring that heat to the heatsink.
Those units should be mounted with the fins of the heatsinks vertically for proper cooling.Thats a REAL AUDIOMOBILE RACK SLAB under them SA-1000's.... REAL DEAL from 1977.... Oldest school.... BDBD/2022
thus the fans.... I added some fans cause it was getting hot... Cool running now. Thanks Bud.Those units should be mounted with the fins of the heatsinks vertically for proper cooling.
