After a recent camping excursion and exposure to horrible audio, I have regained interest in making a battery powered amp/speakers in a box thing.
It was recommended I come here and have a look around and currently suffering information overload, I'm sure everything I need is here somewhere!

Hello Anthony. Yes there are a few good Boomboxes out there. I think one of them is called the Boominator.
