From what I've read here and there, this seems to be the optimal (Still somewhat affordable) setup. Being simple is also a big factor.
The only two things I put no price for are the casing and LCD.
For the LCD, i'll wait until I find a good but really cheap one (in case I break it).
How much do you think the wood and paint cost, does it have to be special paint anyway?
I think the final price will had another 100-150$. It is not the cheapest setup I've seen, but I want reasonable quality.
Please tell me if I forgot anything, or if you think some of it is not worth it.
thanks
Instead of a PRO Lens Triplet I would go with a LL lens triplet fof 30$! I think 200$ for a lens triplet is a rip-off!! Another thing, 550 mm focal of the condenser fresnel will cause, that your P will be quite large. I would rather look for a 330mm fresnel.
One more thing, If you plan to spend over 500 bucks for a setup, don't buy a cheap LCD!. It is a crucial part of every DIY projector. 350 - 400 contrast is a must. Older (cheaper) LCDs usually have like 200 or even less.

I agree with kosimazaki about the lcd. Don't try to cut your costs too much here. I will suggest though that you consider going into some electrical supply stores in your city and try to pick up a ballast there. Although, the lumenlab prices aren't that bad, border fees and shipping make it get pretty pricey. I bought my 400w High Pressure Sodium ballast locally for $60 Canadian and I ordered the bulb LL has from an aquarium store in town for $70.
Hey!
thanks for answering,
I'm no expert, the reason for the 550 focal is this thread:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53925&perpage=10&pagenumber=1
The final size will be about 2' 6'' This is not such a big issue for me. I can also make the projector so the part after the screen can be shortened for transport. but I do not intend to move it.
The lense: The same thread seem to say that this lense is the best choice or maybe a :

for 120$
But of course they are really expensive. Have you tried or seen good results for the lens triplet fof? links if possible. Will this lense cover the entire 15''? no blurry corners?
I'm really wondering about the LCD. They seem so fragile. This is the part I'm most uncomfortable about. My idea was to try it with a cheaper model in case I break it. But maybe you're right.
About the balast and lamp, you are 100% right. Thanks for the pointer.
