Just wondering about experiences/ recommendations for amount and kind of stuffing in GM's MLTL (the 1st one with internal measurements of 4.3x7x31"). about 1/2 lb. of stuffing is recommended. Would wool felt lining of the upper chamber do? How about a Deflex panel behind the driver? Glue some Acoustistuff or Polyfill to the walls of the upper chamber?
Disclaimer: I haven't built that particular design, but I've done a couple of other TL's, Lynn Olsen "Ariels" and a little MLTL. I used roofer's felt on the walls of both, but I don't know if it really helped. That's not the "stuffing" though. Stuffing is fiber that fills part of the tube.
Glue isn't really necessary for the stuffing. I initially used spray glue for the stuffing in the MLTL. WHAT A MESS! It also complicates tweaking. Just loosely pack the fiber in the tube. You probably don't want much if any around the the port. MLK's MathCad worksheet allows you to specify where the stuffing goes and look at the simulated results.

I'm currently experimenting with a triangular version of the 48" MLTL for the JX92. At present, I'm using bonded acetate fibre (BAF) filling the space behind, just below and above the driver. The BAF is held in place by a strut, a few inches below the driver.
I'm still playing around but so far, I haven't had to adjust the stuffing. Only one track has caught it out, where a bass note seemed to boom. Otherwise, less seems best. In any case, I think the stuffing is only meant to tune the cabinet from 100Hz up or so. (And another disclaimer - the triangular enclosure will help in the mid and HF.) As an experiment, I damped the port but that merely threw away the low bass.
Given your experience with the VTL, it will be interesting to hear how you think the MLTL compares.
