I'm new to all this and I don't know any math relating to optics and whatnot, so I'm bringing this information and my question here:
Are the projection lens assemblies available from this page on www.sciplus.com any good? They have quite a selection, and I bet that one of the assemblies will be useful for somebody. Somebody want to splurge and buy a few and report back on their visual quality and whatnot? Like I said, I don't really know how about the math involved with optics, so I don't know how to test these or evaluate them otherwise I'd do it myself. 🙂

I saw that you are looking for a good lens. I just bought the triplet lens from this guy: http://people.eecs.ku.edu/~astaples...design_lens.htm
