Hello, I'm wondering, because I didn't saw much of this kind of speaker here. I mean compact speakers with a fullrange and a passive radiator. Is this something completelly off the charts ? Something not effective at all ?
Here are the two projects I made around this idea.
-Spherical enclosure made of blanda bowls (2.4L inside) ;
-Dayton Audio RS100-4 fullrange driver direct wired and no filter;
-Dayton Audio DSA115 Passive radiator.
-Pill shaped enclosure made of blanda bowls and layers of MDF (8.6L inside);
-Markaudio Alpair 11MS fullrange driver, direct wired and no filter;
-SB Acoustics SB15SFCR-00 5'' x 8'' passive radiator.
Thank you in advance for your replies on the subject.

The pill shaped speakers are some of the most original (styled) speakers I've seen, well cool.
A PR is just a vent substitute (with an additional suspension resonance).
Usually used with a small box and a vent that would otherwise be too long. That would not be the case with the pill shaped one — as cracked case says, interesting shape.
Here the 9 litre CGR for the A11ms, you can see the vent is not overlong.

Thank you Dave, the exemple of enclosure sent is more compact than I thought. It has a 105mm port, on which frequency it is tuned ?
I tried with 41.3Hz and the calculator gave me a result of 42cm long and 5.7cm diameter port. Which was too long for me.

I will search for it. Thank you.probably buried somewhere in my misc. designs thread
I once built a 20cm fullrange in 8 liter volume.
Was only possible with passive radiator.
Its the only choice for compact volumes.
I had to use small diameter reflex port for low tuning in a little box.

I think passive radiators are the much better option when you have a driver that's happier in a vented box, but you don't like the sound of a vented box (like me).
Check out Buchardt Audio, https://buchardtaudio.com/, or maybe you already know their products.
One thing I would try to do with a PR is fit it at the back if possible.
You added a port in the project ? Or is it a different project with bass reflex ? Thefront baffle is in felt, or something similar, how does it impact the sound ?I had to use small diameter reflex port for low tuning in a little box.
Thank you @Stanislav .
I saw some youyube projects using the same SB15SFCR-00 5'' x 8'' : SoundBlad and Audio Judgement.
I like their aesthetics a lot, really compact and the little angle on the front baffle is a nice detail. Unfortunately, I never had the chance of listen to this product in real.Check out Buchardt Audio

Hi. I bought these 4 inch FR speakers
Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out!
US $60.75 | 2022 New Correct DG-403 4'' Full Range Speaker Driver Casting Aluminum Frame IIR Surrouding Mixed White Paper Cone 4/8ohm 25W
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EHNnrd7
I forgot how to choose passive radiator.Which passive radiator should I select? 6.5 inch good for 4 inch FR? They say rule of thumb is double the active speaker.What should be the cabinet size? They give about 11 liters for vented box. İs it ok to build this box and use passive radiator? Or should I build 5 liters ? Or between the bass reflex and sealed. Maybe 7.5lt?
Qts: 0.57
Vas: 4.8lt
FS:72hz
I think sound will be very good with PR.No use of port.

You don't recommend PR? Sorry I didn't understand. Do you offer BR or you offer build a PR enclosure as same size as BR?
A PR is usually used when the vent in a small box, tuned low, gets too big to put in the box.
A system with a PR is a bass reflex — but with an extra supension resonance.

Hello and thanks @mayhem13, it sounds good to my ears, but I don't have the measurement tools and I'm struggling for building the second one to have a pair.
I can compare it to a similar speaker I made with the Dayton Audio PS180-8, the DA speaker is clearer on the high frequencies and the sensivity is higher.
Let's say I'm in a passive radiator "micro-passion" time.
