I have just simmed a ported speaker with Dayton RS100-8 and the sim is has pretty good frequency response. the box is 5ltr ported tuned to 70 Hz. The FR and X-over are attached herewith for your comments. the design uses two notch filters, one works to tame the BSC as well as bright mids and the other one tames the top octave harshness.

That's a nice response, but a lot of trouble to flatten what should be a flat driver to start with and all those filters drop the sensitivity quite a bit. I suppose there is no getting around the BSC part unless you go with a wallmount, use EQ, or use a cabinet with lots of bass gain more than a BR. You may want to check out the Vifa TC9FD - it is very smooth and flat, about the same size and costs less. Generally, a better performer IMO that the RS100, but it is higher Qts so the cabinet will be bigger. You may want to try the RS100 in a mini Karlsonator - it makes lots of bass and can oftentimes skip the BSC altogether.

Another driver worth looking at is the Faital Pro 4FE35, also measures very flat and is 91dB sensitive for about same price or less.

Thanks for the reply. well I will be using these in a home theatre set-up but not at very loud volumes. I agree that all the filters will make sensitivity a bit low. But there are certain issues with the response at 15kHz. I can drop the 10uf-0.64mH-6Ohm notch. But i think the notch for 15kHz is still required, otherwise I will have to listen to the speakers off axis at precise angle which is not ideal. what do you say?..

Thanks for the reply. I did some web search for the diy using the above driver. In almost all cases people have not used the top octave notch. Just the notch filter to take care of BSC and loud mids. I will do the same.

I did some sims after been testing the RS100 and found that a modified TABAQ could work well. The last part of the line (the "port") should be increased to set the tuning of the cabinet higher.
I did not try it, however, so it is pure simulation.

Yes Bob,
the hole in the back of the cabinet is for terminal cup. Otherwise is the design ok ( as given in pdf attachment in Post #6) for use in HT set up?
