FS AVI ADM9RS active speakers, rosewood colour £650 delivered in the UK, £600 Collect
For sale, my ADM9RS active speakers from british company AVI (originally £1300 new and £130 for the stands). These speakers have a 250w amp for the woofer and 75w amp for the tweeter.
These speakers need no introduction and entirely lived up to their bill when purchased 3 1/2 years ago. The reason for selling is because i have moved over to a superb Jordan Eikona 2 setup. To be fair the ADM's are close to these and are easier to use and connect equipment too, however i missed using my legacy Toshiba SA7100 amp.
Here is the marketing info for them:
ADM9RS
When we introduced our ADM9 active speakers in January 2007, they were unique and revolutionary, the first genuine hi-fi actives to have a built in DAC and remote controlled preamplifier. They were the price of a pretty ordinary, entry level separates system and quite capable, as many owners subsequently discovered, of outperforming some of the most expensive money could buy.
The latest iteration, ADM9RS is in fact a completely different set of speakers and far improved through several years of innovation and development.
The ADM9 subwoofer (also released in 2007) merges seamlessly with the ADM9RS and extends to the lowest notes, which the bass driver in the ADM9RS cannot reach.
New and improved preamplifier and DAC
The preamplifier / DAC has been completely redesigned to give better performance, though DACs these days are virtually impossible to tell apart, so perhaps most important is that it now locks and unlocks silently when attached to devices.
Extra-long linear travel tweeters
The tweeters have a superbly damped silk diaphragm, extra-long linear travel and no less than two copper shorting rings to remove eddy currents. The result is the smoothest sweetest top anyone could ever wish for.
More effective damping and more detailed mid in the bass driver
The bass driver is completely new and the latest technology. Sinar Baja have manufactured the paper cone themselves to ensure more effective damping of break up modes and a smoother more detailed mid. They've also fitted a stronger, but well damped dust cap to reduce voice coil former distortion and the enharmonic tones it produces. Most significant, is the addition of a copper cap to the pole piece. This reduces eddy currents generated in the steel work of the magnet. They fight with the signal from the amplifier for control of the cone and produce non-harmonic and time related distortions.
Latest amplifiers with 4th order active crossovers
None of the above would be possible were it not tremendous headroom from our powerful amplifiers, far more than most have in their legacy system and because we use 4th order active crossovers. Believe it or not going active gives 2-300 times better driver control and an active crossover can have at least one hundredth of the distortion of a passive one.
Passive speakers simply cannot prevent the tweeter producing out of time sound because of the inability to reduce the output quickly enough. Active speakers solve this with a steeper crossover that also prevents boomy bass sounds.
Technical Specifications
Power amplifiers: High speed, linear, analogue bipolar, 75 WPC for the tweeters and 250 WPC for the bass drivers. System distortion is typically better than 0.002%.
Crossovers: Active 4th order Linkwitz-Riley @ 2.4 kHz
Preamplifier: High quality state of the art analogue preamplifier with two digital and one analogue input. Control is remote and volume settings are remembered for each separate input.
Volume control resolution: 1/2 dB steps 100dB range.
DAC: Wolfson WM8741 with SRC to 24/96 Stereo with optical S/PDIF.
Bass driver: Very high power handling, long excursion 6.5" paper cone drive unit with 1.5" voice coil, copper shorting ring and exceptionally broad bandwidth to enable a phase perfect crossover at 2.4 kHz. Bass extension is better than - 6dB @ 50 Hz.
Tweeter: 1" silk dome tweeter with exceptional linear travel and twin copper shorting rings -3 dB point of greater than 30 kHz.
System Amplitude Response: better than + or - 2 dB 100 Hz - 20 kHz.
Low Frequency Response: 6dB at 50Hz
I will also include my Hifiracks poduim speaker stands in darkwood finish, which match the colour of the speakers well.
Hi Fi Racks Podium Slimline Speaker Stands Oak: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
The only fault with the speakers themselves is a slight dink to the back right corner of the right speaker. This dosent detract from the look from the front and it dosent effect performance.
I will upload some photos shortly.
