Hi.

We have earlier in the AK4490 USB DAC thread on the vendor bazar been talking about a frontpanel for the DAC. Some mentioned it could be usefull for other products as well.

So here it is taking shape.

Some of the highlights is:
  • 140x60mm PCB
  • New heaven display - nhd-2.8-25664ucb2 - OLED blue 256x64 pixels
  • 4 buttons, high quality - We provide caps in aluminium as well
  • 6 pole IDC connector for use with bourns EM14A0D encoder with 32/64/128 pulses per rev.
  • 10 pol IDC connector for AK4490 USB DAC frontpanel connector
  • 2 pol header for 5V - 15VDC supply to the front.
  • 20 pol IDC connector for General purpose connection - 3V logic
  • IR receiver for NEC remote (apple remote)
  • Controller is an Cortex M0 based ATSAMD20J18 from atmel.
  • Bootloader installed for firmware upgrade.
  • 3 pole molex header for RS232 for firmware upgrade. - Could be FTDI USB to serial bridge module

An nice thing about this panel is that users or customers can program the panel itself using Atmelstudio + Atmel ice 3. Atmel studio is free and the ATATMEL-ICE-BASIC is available for 54USD from Atmel.

The general purpose connector is 3V logic but we can provide breakout board with level converters for 3 - 5VDC logic level.

Potential customers will get access to the schematic of the board.

Together with CAPS for the buttons we are working on a frontpanel, most likely in 8mm aluminium ..

The 1 unit price is 144€.

The early bird price of this one is 124€.

The frontpanel will be ordered 3.08.15 (just in a moment)

Until the 14. august 2015.

Please observe that the price has gone down by 10€.

So Normal price is 134€ and early bird is 124€.

It is due to the fact that the PCB is an 2 layer board instead of 4 layer which was planed first, but after routing i could see it was not necessary with 4 layer board.

In case of preamp with buttons only, the two left buttons are for volume, third from left is channel,

The most right button is menu selection. In menu mode the volume buttons are +/- Scroll up/down, channel select button is escape, and right button is menu enter/save.

The encoder is optional. it is an EM14A0D which is very very nice but also very expensive i have decided to supply the PCB only for an start.

At digikey this encoder cost 31€ but it is worth every cent....

With encoder volume control gets placed on the encoder instead, making the interface better for the user.

Just an update.

We have been working all weekend to get the frontpanel running with the preamp board.

And now it works really fine.

Features are:
  • Change channel text if needed.
  • Change default volume level.
  • Change Filter for DAC.
  • Assign Apple Remote ID to the Frontpanel.
  • Play / Pause switch works as Mute.
  • Centerbutton enters menu where default channel text can be selected.
  • Encoder works on the Volume level.
  • Firmware upgrade able by holding SW4 during power up and Seriel interface to windows using SAM-BA bootloader.

So together with the Preamp board it runs out of the box.

But we will provide firmware to control PGA2310, WM8816, MAS6116AA1SA306, Discrete R2R attenuator (Through Seriel to Parallel converter), MUSES72320, Stepped attenuator (Through Seriel to Parallel converter)

Mainly SPI but we can provide I2C if needed.

We have 15 Frontpanels in stock now. They cost 124€/Frontpanel.
