Eagle is free...
Eagle is free, if you only use the board layout, and your board is 3 inch by 4 inch.
www.cadsoft.de (I think this is the site)
The learning curve is sharp. Once you get used to it things go quickly.

Use it only for DRAWING circuits, so far.

Free downloadable version available. Schematic capture and PCB layout, built-in docyumentation and tutuorial. You will hgave to pay for written documentation and Gerber file generator. This is a full strength, industrial grade product. It is not something you learn over night, but the software is very complete and stable.

Here's a discussion I initiated a while back. Good information on a number of packages. Geoff (sadly, no longer a member) spent a fair bit of time on this:

Okey guys thanks! I've tryed some allready but do I really need to create all the valves my own??

That´s what I´d say as well. The learning curve is sharp. Once you get used to it things go quickly.
Once you get into it everything goes real fast.
Even doing your own packages and devices is no problem.
I don´t use the auto-router though. Still can´t handle that properly.

Great site:
http://www.olimex.com/dtools.html
There I found this:
http://www.kov.com/
To read more look at this:
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2002/6/prweb39691.php
Who could ask for anything more?😀 😎
Only caveat is that Win 2000/NT/XP are supported but not Win 95/98/ME not supported.

Wow ppfred, that’s a good hint. I am using AutoDesk’s Inventor for my job. Let us see what this will bring. At the moment I am stumbling around with UltiBoard. If this AutoTRAX is great the mechanical engineers will be happy as well.

This is nice!!!!!
Look at this!
www.baas.nl and download setuplayo1PCB.zip
Great program also for Dutch users.

tube sockets
Has anyone datasheets for tube-sockets? I'm trying to add them to my libs but it's not simple without data....

Autotrax EDA
This got me excited last night, as I've been wanting to overcome the limitations of Eagle (which is an otherwise excellent package).
Having downloaded it though, even running on a 1.7GHz P4, it's so slow it's frustrating when editing a schematic. Even though it integrates Schematic Capture / SPICE sim and layout, I could enter the schematic into my seperate spice sim and Eagle quicker than with Autotrax, I feel.
I'm going to ask Cadsoft to do a version of Eagle with a pin / connection limit, rather than a simplistic board size limit, as this is what many other packages do, and it seems a more sensible limitation to impose - what does anyone else think?
Any tips from users of AutoTrax - it shows some promise so I won't give up yet!
Andy.

Re: look what i've just found!!
Bas,
For what it is worth, this company is also very good in making your boards. They specialise in proto's and small runs. I have dealt with them several times, their quality and service is great. Example: 2 eurocards, double sided + silk screen, 5 days, around 50 euro. You can pay by CreditCard. The guy to email to is Tsvetan Usunov.

Hi all,
I have visit www.holophase.com in this web page can be download the demo version of Circad.
In the downloads button say 'These demos are no time or pin limited' the only limits are that are excluded the Gerber output, the Postscript plotting and the export fillters, as to say, don't are adecuated for industrial work but, for made your own schemes and pcb's is a ideal tool. Very adecuated for domestic work=diy.
So, you have a proffesional software for free without any limits.
And, if you need a Simulation software, and need simulate more that trhree opamps, you can visit www.pcb-pool.com in the section downloads, you have the 'pcb-pool version' of Target 3001.
The output are only for pcb-pool, so no adecuated for made your own pcb's. But the other parts of the software are fully functionals, as to say, the schematic capture and the simulation, for free and no pin or node limits. you can print or export to clipboard your simulations.
So you have a free, fully functional simulator with no limits.
happy days,
Raul Couto
