Hello!
Need quick help. Accuracy is good, but not a priopity.
Does enybody got Fostex FF165WK drivers?
What about it's response peak at 4kHz (3.5...7.5 kHz)? It does not looks like something terrible. I am confused about using notch filter, because off-axis frequency response falls intensively. Does FF165WK really needed in use of notch filter?

If yes,- what it should be and what is it's base frequency? Inductor and capacitor in series with parallel resistor for lower Q???
If anybody have good real result with FF165WK, please, give yours values for filter components.

I'm quite happy with the 165WKs after swapping out in a pair of these (originally populated by FE167E) - currently playing with EL84 P/P triode amp
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
As to requirement of notch filter - I was never particularly bothered by the 167s, and have found all drivers in new WK series I've heard to date ( 85/125/165) much smoother in the upper mids and top end than FE series - but as always, specifications and measurements notwithstanding, YMMV
That bump in the FR is not worth worrying about (if the graph is accuarte). Just listen a bit off axis. Some people will need helper tweeters with these.

Hi,
Main issue as always is baffle step, which FR fans like simply ignoring.
Ignorance may be bliss, but its still wrong interpreting driver responses
measured on a large flat baffle, related to the same driver in a real box.
The responses are very different, and there is no pretence otherwise.
rgds, sreten.

That’s not entirely true. Many may not use baffle step correction but not because they are ignoring it. If the driver sounds too forward some install baffle step correction or try other ways to balance out the sound. Fullrange fanatics will go thru a lot to build a cabinet that benefits a driver without having to install a circuit. I’ve read many posts where a circuit was installed and then removed because sonically it took away more than simply leaving the driver to play full out.
