im getting a pair of enabled 127s in a few days (hopefully) and well, the cabinet will take a little while to build. could i possibly use them in an open baffle for the time being or would it just be a waste of time and effort? open baffle is something i could whip up very quickly. once i build the amp (decware set kit) i will start looking into relatively easy plans for cabinets. will be starting a woodworking class on the 29th of this month so dont really want to go with a fonken build right away. might do a very simple bass reflex for now and then try something more dangerous after i take the woodworking class.
ideas for open baffle and other plans in general are welcome.

I slapped together a pair of JE Labs clone OB's for my 127's to break them in while I was building my Fonkens. Lots of cone excursion in an OB, which helps with the break-in process.😀

PS: I used 3/8" plywood and 2x4's.

I don't think it would be a waste. At least you'll have your own opinion about open baffle sound vs boxed one.
Can you imagine to support that Fostex 127E with a separate OB bass driver? possibly SS powered? Than you should try it for sure. Take any baffle with more than 30 cm width and mount the Fostex just below the upper edge, equal distance to both sides. You will need to imagine the missing bass.
If your target is strictly full range from a single driver - forget about OB.

the drivers are going into monitors in my office. the open baffles are just a place holder. at home, i have bib's in the making (with 206e drivers). the monitors will be for near field listening in my office. roughly 4-5ft at most. a subwoofer is certainly out of the question for my office.
what would be an appropriate size of ob for these drivers?

I have no experience with such application. May be a look at gainphiles desktop OBs (look for past projects) could help.
Here's an easy speaker design that works nicely for the Fostex 127e.
ZillaAudio.com, Outdoor Speakers | Rock Speakers | Garden Speakers | Patio Speakers | In-Wall Speakers | Ceiling Speakers and more!
Standard lumber widths used to make things easy to build. There are lots of good designs for this driver. Pick one and enjoy.

godzilla, i think i might have a small problem putting them on my desk =/ i guess i should have made it clear that whatever speakers get built, they will rest on my desk somewhere. i dont command that much real estate yet. next year if they give me a bigger office then sure.
drivers have been shipped! yay 🙂 i dont think i have the resolve or the patience to have them sitting there while i build and troubleshoot the amp. so they will decidedly go into open baffles and be used with a t-amp for the time being.
