are these the same or is the L version a lower Fs. I have a few without the L and find no mention of them on the internet?

I don't know, by the 5k013L datasheet, there is a mention of latex coating on the back of the cone. Perhaps that would make a difference between the two.
That is a detail I overlooked about the coating. I weighed it and it is a little lighter than the 5K013L spec (although I don't put much faith in that number), but I do not see anything that looks like that coating. I guess I will measure the Fs to be sure. I would use them in a 3 way so the lower Fs does not matter and the coating may have affected the upper end anyway(??).
Mainly curious since I could find no mention of the L-less model.
I remember reading about JBL coating the back of their 18" sub to go lower and be stiffer.

If anybody is interested, I measured the Fs on the non L version at 78 compared to the 44 listed for the 5k013L. I had acquired several of these and morel 8"bass and tweeters from a pawn shop friend that were in a weird omni-directional system. I might make a traditional 3 way pair with them.
I wouldn't discount that the difference in Fs versus the 5K013L datasheet isn't at least partly due to them being very old.If anybody is interested, I measured the Fs on the non L version at 78 compared to the 44 listed for the 5k013L
Me neither, SS 13m 8640-00 I used to repair for a friend drifted from initial Fs=90 Hz to 120Hz in the last 17 years and it was bought 2nd hand.
That's a valid point and I was a bit surprised it was that high. Another poster pointed out that the 5k013Ls have a latex coating on the back and mine without the L don't. Which suggests they are a lighter cone and should have a higher Fs. The actual value does not really matter as I will be using them just as a midrange (when I get around to it). My main curiosity is not being able to find a spec sheet on them.
And I see that you,TMM are an Aussie. I lived in Adelaide and Aldgate from 1970-1980. really enjoyed the place. Worked for a hifi shop where I caught the sound equipment bug and leaned to appreciate Stax headphones. I still have a lot of articles from a guy named Elliot at sound.westhost.com
