Fixing ban from vinyl engine?

Hi,

I got banned today from vinyl engine, and got this message as I was trying to log in: permanently banned because of use of VPN proxy servers...

I don’t have a vpn active, nor use a proxy server that I know of. I kept having problems on iPad where I would log in, and it wouldn’t allow me to stay logged in long enough to look at any manual. Had trouble at work both on my desktop computer and my iPhone when the phone was on WiFi. Phone on cellular data allowed me to download. Then at home, using the WiFi in my house, I kept getting booted on the iPad. The told my account was permanently banned.

Anyone else having similar problems? Anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this? I’d love to be able to get back on there. Good people and information.

Yes, I was merely curious if others have had similar troubles, and successful resolution of them. Trying not to get my IP address banned, and thought it might be smart to see if others are having trouble or if it’s something my iPad/internet provider were doing to cause trouble.

I've often used hifiengine and vinylengine, and have never had any trouble at all.
If you ran a site these days, you might be paranoid too. Our university CS dept
IT leader made the mistake of saying on a forum that nobody could break into his security.
Result: countless, merciless cyberattacks from all over the world, and he was let go.

I’m with you on that. Lots of perils when running something like that. I hope he would do as the folks at the BAMA website have done and have multiple mirrors of the site so that all that wonderful information collected doesn’t disappear with the owner one day.

I have a similar problem, banned from VE with no reason given.
I have tried many times to get info on a Turntable but alas, no luck.
A friend came around to my flat and he put in his user/pass details and managed to log in.
He left me his details so I could log in sometime but as yet not had any reason to try it.
I was quite a contributor so it is more loss to them than I, perhaps VE thought I was a trader or something rather than a person trying to help as many as possible before
my accumulated knowledge is lost when the grim reaper comes and that may not be very far away.

I used to have some of your problems before
So I started to use Tapatalk app on my Apple gear. Something about useing a iPad or iPhone without that app freaks out some of the forums servers.
Just thinking outside the box

Does that work with vinyl engine? I haven’t had any troubles with other sites for all the nearly a decade that I’ve been perusing them on iPhone, and now iPad also.

ISPs don't have enough IPv4 addresses for all their customers to have a single even dynamic IP address at any time, so a lot of NAT proxying goes on.
It's perfectly possible that your NATted traffic was coming from the same proxy as a VPN endpoint

This thread introduced me to diyAudio

I was doing an internet search on "vinylengine banned" and came across this thread. Because of it I checked out this site and became a member. I had no idea it existed.

Regarding the banning, yeah, the guy at Vinylengine is a bit of a Karen. I was banned there a LOT of times. It's one of only two sites I've ever had this problem with. The other was an absurdly biased political site, so it really doesn't count.

He will not just ban your computer, but ban your ip address. So what if there are other members using that same address. Also, he makes it very clear in the rules that once you are banned, it is YOU that is banned, forever. And he'll do everything he can to ensure you never, ever successfully come back.

Since I travel all around and use different compters from various locations, it was easy for me to create a new account the first time, but as soon as I posted something that gave a hint I was the guy he banned, BOOM banned again. And I mean it was not even strong evidence.

I went through this several times over a period of several months. My solution was to simply open several accounts there using several different email addresses from different computers and have them "at the ready" as each one gets banned.

I figured I'd "fight fire with fire". In this case, it was "obsession with obsession". That is, it became a challenge. Challenge accepted and met. 🙂

I just don't bother to post there any more and just use the material. There is a reason the forums there are so quiet. 🙂

BTW, he'll ban you for complaining about it on another site as a guy from AudioKarma found out the hard way. Oh, and for stuff you say in PM's there. He reads them. And bans people for what they say in PM's.

Great resources though. 🙂

And this site looks great for us DIY folks too!

Good to hear that some folks have issues getting on vinyl engine...I almost thought it was a regional ban as I'm in South asia.
On registration attempt, I found that my country was banned‐ specifically.
Judging by the experiences of some folks here, the admin has some kind of megalomania complex 🙄

Cheers!

I think I have worked out why I was banned. I posted some info about the Yaqin MS22/23 RIAA amplifiers and added a link to my website where folks could download the latest information about modifying them. That probably upset them and caused the ban but the link enabled folks to get the latest modification info which was continually being updated at that time. Shame really but I have managed to live without vinyl engine.

I was a member for years. Never posted and am banned.
If you're a member of Lenco Heaven you will be automatically banned and I believe that is my case.
He will also ban you if you post about Lenco turntables.
Shame because it has some really great data on it.
