First Watt kits? Projects?

Hi there!
So, I'm looking at building an amp (and maybe a preamp) in the near future.
The ideal thing would be a Single Ended Transistor (SETr anyone?). The closest thing I've seen are Nelson Pass' designs.
I really like the look of the First Watt F2.

Is this available as a kit? Is there a project page somewhere describing how to build my own? Or is this just a commercial venture for Mr. Pass, and I will have to look elsewhere for a design?

I like the Zen designs Mr. Pass has come out with in years past, but I don't know how up-to-date the designs, parts lists, etc are.

Any help out there on making a decision?

I'd like a kit because I don't have the facility to make my own circuit boards. But if wiring is simple enough, the point-to-point soldering isn't out of the question.

Thanks all 🙂

Forgive my ignorance grand poo-bah of solder slinging! 😛
As Bono says "I still haven't found what I'm looking for"

Maybe I'm just looking wrong 😕

The ideal thing would be a kit... or at least a printed circuit board...or a point-to-point wireable set up that I can build in a weekend.

I've looked at the product manuals for the First Watt products, and they mostly seem to be just that, manuals. The passdiy.com stuff seems to be a bit on the more complicated side with words like "balanced" and "feedback" 😛

but then again, perhaps I just haven't turned over the right rock?

Thanks for your help, Poo-bah Pass 🙂

The only official circuit board is the B1. It can be found on the PassDIY site.

However, there are group buy circuit boards for F3, F4 and F5.

Any of the Firstwatt amps should be simple enough to build point to point.

Good luck with your build.

Search harder at ebay.

You can find some Pass designs , but not all, Unfortunately all of them just stole Mr. Pass' Intellectual properties.

Viola! I already found one already, Not f2 though. Famous Pass F1 Class A AMP clone KIT ?Sound Warm - eBay (item 180509331254 end time Jun-17-10 08:38:19 PDT)

Lol! What's funny is that I work at ebay, and I couldn't find any first watt designs! Le Sigh. Guess I'll have to work on that 😛

I'm not too hot on the "stole Mr. Pass' intellectual property" part either.

That F2 group buy might be just the ticket.
Peter, you got any of those left?

How hard would it be to use a Jfet in the F2?

I also noticed no f3 pcbs hanging about. Is it not as well loved a design?

Thanks for the info, all 🙂

Here's the collection of all Pass boards I produced so far: A30, F2, F3, F4, F5, Aleph J. Only F3 has different mosfet spacing, all other are interchangeable.

Since all 5 F series amps use / need the same power supply, and Chassis & Heat Sync, I would read the reviews on 6 Moons and build whatever seemed the best match. You could then change to any other F series at reduced cost at a later time.

Ed,
I was looking at your parts supply list; what is RS on there?
I suspected Radio Shack, but couldn't find any of your part #s on their website.

Peter Daniel,

Do you have the power supply PCB too? How much are they?
Thanks,
