I am using a 8.4 inch LCD - and see pixels - but its ok with me
the pixels look like the of the zero on a keyboard up close
and far away look like the image is made of small dots
but it adds to the sharp-ness of the image
but using a 5 inch or screen my yeld pixels twice the size
or almost twice the size, like this "0" compaired to
this "{ }" dont look like mutch but - you will see a
difference - I plan on using a PSONE lcd - but I know
it will not be the best - I plan on using it just for partys
and keep it in my cars trunk - watch some football or movies
and thats it - with a small lcd you can use less light like
a 150w HQI - or 300w flood light but watch for heat

the 8.4'' u are using shows pixel but are you saying its still sharp? Or you mean that u see pixels and effects the sharpness of the image (in a negative way)?
I wanna use a 7''-8'' lcd like a lilliput mainly for my xbox. And by looking at the 2004 winners of diy-pj at allinbox :

the 7'' pjs look so sexy and small and results are just as good as the 15'' pjs in the competition IMO.
Would an xbox look good on a 7'' lcd?

Its sharp looking - well you know how TV softens sharp
edges, the sharp edges are real sharp on my LCD but
made out of squares - its hard to tell you - but it seams
sharp-er than my computer monitor -
But just like in video games the higher the rez the better
just compaire a Nintendo game to a XBox game
the lilliput is a lot better than mine
I am using a old 640x480 lcd - sharp QA-1200
the lilliput has more pixels and there smaller
but I think its only 800x600
for a game only unit why not use a PSONE lcd
but for DVD and every day stuff get a good LCD
here is a pic up close, see the nintendo idea comes into play
this is like 6 inch from the screen - at 7 foot it looks like a
a window screen at 10 feet its perfect

wow thats worst than i thought. but how big is the picture... my question is what if i only want a 42" picture or so ... will it look sharp at that size?
Well put will1384.
I appreciate the time and info you have provided. At 6'', it is typical for any projector to see the screen door effect. At work we have hp DLP projectors, and i can notice the screen door effect from 4-6 feet. But they look perfect from far away. Your projection close-up doesnt look too shabby at all in that regards.
On the other hand, you have increased my confidence on the mini lcds. Its just that, 7''-8'' lcds have a lower response rate, contrast ratio and resolution in comparison to a decent 15'' lcd. But i just dont want to build a huge box.
The thing is i wanna use my projector with my xbox which i use as my gaming system and media center.
I think 800x600 res is more than enough cas most xbox games cant run higher than 480p (around 700x400 or something). And s-video would be good enough as input - dont need a vga (my comp vid card has svideo out as well).

Take a look at my thread, i'm using the Mayron and Davis 7" screen for mine and it looks pretty good to me. The image is 106" . http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48754&perpage=10&pagenumber=2

Sup Clinton - i been following your thread. Awsome job buddy. Making me green w/ envy 😀😀😀. What is the response time on ur 7'' beauty?? Are there any ghosting on fast paced frames or games??
And btw, where did u get the kiwk kopy projection lens?
I don't know the responce time, couldn't find it any where. But ther is not ghosting, a sight double image but that's form the mirror. I've tried fast action movies and it works great, not a gamer don't have anything more than a psone.😱 The lens i got out of my art projector (i airbrush), but you can order a lens for one $75. Kind of expensive when you can get one form here for half the price i just used it because i had it and it projects at a really dim light. http://www.diyprojectorcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=68

7''-8'' lcds have a lower response rate
I watch DVD and play unreal - there is no lag behind
things get a hair fuzzy - when they move - but leave
no trail - and the QA-1200 was made in the mid 90s
A good test is the game DX Ball - its a game were you bounce
a white ball to break bricks - and the background is black
- so you got a fast moving white dot, moving over a black
screen - if there is any ghost-ing you would see it - I dont
LCDs even crappy ones should be lots better now
- I have seen some car LCDs that look bad but
there STN or CSTN - but TFT are often hard to
see in the sun unless there transreflective
you have increased my confidence on the mini lcds
Plus
I watch DVD and play unreal - there is no lag behind
Now I am a believer.
ive decided im gonna try with a 2.5" lcd for my first project. now all i need is to figure out the proper lenses and what not to use, im clueless
I would use a big-er LCD - it will work but dont expect quality
if you end up spending $40 or $50 on a 2.5 inch LCD
you could have got a 5 inch sony PSONE lcd thats 10 times the
quality for the same price - if your dead set on the 2.5 inch
lcd, slide projectors work well for them

what do you guys think about this 7'' lcd's specs??

id like to do the 2.5" because it will end up small and i only want it to project aptox 40" picture. and i get the 2.5's nice and cheap 🙂 so now i just need to know what lenses to use to get that size picture and where to get them than im set!
cheap lens for 2.5" LCD?
I have not tried it, but you might want to look at:
http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G1596&variation=&aitem=19&mitem=32
They sell a surplus CRT projection lens for $7.95 US that would probably work with a 2.5" diagonal LCD. I have seen others like this for $10-$12 US. This type of lens goes right up against the LCD. Maybe an inch away at the most. They are wider than the LCD, so they capture all the light going through it without any fresnels.
You could try lighting it with a dichroic parabolic reflector Halogen spotlight bulb. Those are the ones that look like they have a transparent red coating on the back of the reflector glass.
If you want to add a heat filter, the diybuildergroup.com online store sells 2" hot mirror squares for $4 US.
There you go: lamp, heat filter, and lens for probably $25! Just add your cheap 2.5" LCD.

they say in the add, it has the same pixels as the lilliput
it looks a little like the lilliput - I wonder if it will strip eazy
Bones2 - here is a 2.5 inch lilliput lcd - 112320 pixels

dont know if there stripable, and the cheaper hip gear may have
just as many pixels
thanks for the suggestion guy! i might just try that out
and will, i get the hipgears real cheap so im gonna give it a shot with that screen befor i take on any other projects
