I need a first surface mirror for changing the orientation of my projected image. I have seen I can get an 8" X 8" for £20 in p&p in england not sure about US. Could I use mylar instead? If I can get it flat its supposed to be about 90-92% reflective. If it works I can make a mirror any size i want, it will be light and if it gets scratched I can make another! I looking for thoughts on this idea.
Mylar before the lcd... maybe. Depends on if it could handle the heat from the light without dis-coloring. After the lcd... no way. You would most likely get a blurry image to some degree.
JCB has a pretty good price on first surface mirrors

You can get the same F.S. Mirror that Diybuildergroup sells for half the price at American Science and Surplus. Diybuildergroup sells a 6x7 mirror for $6.99. AS&S sells a 160mmx183mm (which is 6"x7") for only $3.50 That's where I got mine.

I was thinking of mylar because it is used in rear projection tvs eg
http://www.abesofmaine.com/viewproduct.asp?id=znr49w36 and is readily available, cheap and doesn't pick up static and dust. Also if it gets scratched or marked I can just make another and not have to wait for a new mirror to arrive. It is lighter and I can make it any size I want. If there were a cheap supplier of FS mirrors in the UK that would be fine but we just don't have the surplus stores that you fellows do! I guess I'll try it out and if it works great, if not you can say I told you so.
