After Hulu and Amazon Prime Video both announced that they will stop supporting Sony Blu Ray deck as streaming device, I order an Amazon Fire Stick 4K for that function. To my dismay, the Stick has NO digital audio output for a DAC. I think that a HDMI switcher may solve the problem.
Amazon.com: 4K HDR HDMI Switch, Koopman 4 Ports 4K 60Hz HDMI 2.0 Switcher Selector with IR Wireless Remote, Supports UltraHD Dolby Vision, High Speed(Max to 18.5Gbps), HDR10, HDCP 2.2 & 3D: Home Audio & Theater
This switcher has digital optical output. Is it true that digital audio extraction from HDMI should have no sound quality degrade? Is there a better scheme to get sound output from a Fire Stick? I have only one optical input for the DAC. The Fire Stick and the Blu Ray player will both plugged into the switcher and share one input of the DAC. I have an analogue preamp and no other A/V components. The DAC goes to one of the preamp inputs.
