It's taken about 5 times longer than expected but finally had great time setting up my new DIY speakers today only to find the $450 (Aud) PA amplifier I purchased to power my new two 10" subwoofers would not power them at all.
If anyone is able to shed some insight?
My set up is a New Denon AVR-X550BT powering my stereo speakers, this is connected via the sub pre out on the Denon to a Crown XLI 800 PA amplifier. The Crown amplifier is home use compatible it has an input selectable switch of 0.775v or 1.4v with an RCA input connection at rear for sub or stereo speakers. It can also run 2 x 8 ohms.
To troubleshoot I tried many RCA cable combinations & a splitter cable, stereo and parallel mode and 0.775v & 1.4v on the Crown amp. So after no success with that I disconnected the Crown and removed and replaced it with a tiny Nobsound G2 sub amp to one subwoofer via the Denon rear sub out and was able to get good bass for one subwoofer so I know the Denon is outputing bass correctly.
I also set the Crown XLI 800 amp up by itself to some stereo speakers with the RCA on the rear connected to my Yamaha WXAD 10 wifi dac. The volume was too loud even on the very lowest setting but it sounded quite good to my ears.
So the Crown also seems to be working properly as is the Denon they just don't want to work together with the Crown as a sub amp.
Is anybody able to diagnose a work around for my problem? Any help appreciated.
Regards Tim

If you are connecting the subs to the Crown using the Speakon connectors make sure you have used the correct pins .
I'm using the RCA at the rear of the Crown amp, I just tried it again turned the gain right up it made a little difference but still barley any bass, still not nearly not as much bass as my tiny amp would do just driving one side, I then switched from 0.775v to 1.4v on the Crown and lost almost all the bass I had the when turning the gain up? Weird???

Let me rephrase how are you connecting the subwoofers to the crown amplifier , or are you calling the binding posts RCA .

No I have a single RCA pre sub out on the Denon amp and using one of the two RCA connections on the Crown amp to connect it.
I've just tried again it is much better this time with the crown turned up to max gain on both channels. It still does not have as much bass as my $60 Nobsound amp 50 watt amp running just one sub. The 50 watt amp has a .775v input sensitivity same as the Crown amp has.
The subs are two Dayton RS270P-8A 10" 100 watt RMS in separate enclosures.
The Crown XLi 800 is running them at 2x200 watts RMS in 8 ohms.

What position do you have the Mode switch set at on the Crown? The correct setting is Parallel with only 1 input being used, stereo will only drive 1 output and bridged would flip polarity between the subs cancelling most of thier accoustic output.
But that may still not be enough to get good results, the problem of not enough signal level from an AVR to drive a PA amplifier is very common, and the solution is to add a device like the ART Cleanbox to boost the signal.

Thanks yes I have it set on parallel. Do you mean something like this, this one seems to have a powered boost function could it be used for the sub put on the Denon to boost the signal?

Yes that is the exact unit I provided a link to in my previous response.
Sorry I missed seeing it, thankyou, I searched for hours and couldn't find anything so you have been a great help to me, most units were just passive to reduce hum.
While I'm waiting for this to arrive would it be ok to continue have the gain on both channels on the Crown amp turned all the way to max volume to get at least some output from my subs? The Crown has a clip indicator I doubt I'm anywhere near activating it.
