Fake tubes.
I laughed when I walked into a customers office and he had one of those fake tube radios on the shelf. He was not happy with me.
I say we can now add a new acronym to the list ( KPD = knobs per dollar, ILS = if lightning strikes, UFO we all know that one) I propose: UGO = unknown glowing objects. Just like in all sci-fi movies, they add intrigue to things.
I was thinking about sticking some neon and argon regulator tubes on the power supply of my Tesla Coil just for "effect". 99 percent of the people who see my demos would not question the function of them. 🙄

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

That is the coolest idea! Glitz and bling on top to impress you ladies, and a real amp underneath 😉

Yes, there is one out here like that too. It actually has real 6N2 and 6P1 tubes on top, with heaters running. Underneath is a 18wpc SS amp.
I haven't tried it, but I suspect one could pull the tubes out of the top and the music will keep flowing......
I was actually tempted to buy one (just out of curiosity) when they had a special ($NZ119), but by the time I made up my mind they had sold out....

Add a plasma ball for $10.84 and we have a space-age device.
Thanks for the link wwenze! already have a plasma plate 18" diameter. Building a supply for an 18" plasma sphere. The local science museum fried theirs so I am making a better one with more bells and whistles. MORE UGO!

And it gets ~4 stars for usefulness! Cool. Group buy? 😛

Mine has (chinese) ECC85 + a 13W TDA amp, and an EM84.All tubes function

There was a circuit in Elektor once to add to a SS amp.
Had a delay so the audio "faded in" but also it added mains hum at first before the audio, gradually increasing, then decreasing the level of the hum as the audio appeared.

Wow, that was in the early 1980's. 😀
I have that one featured in one of the Elektor's 302 Circuits books.
