Hello folks,
Not exactly a DIY question. I have a NAD CD player (C521BEE). I have recently noticed a faint whining/ringing sound coming from the unit when it's on. This doesn't happen when it's on standby. I have tried playing with the interconnects and plugging into different outlets--seems to make no difference in the sound. I don't use a power conditioner.
I cannot hear this sound through music. If the room is quiet, I can hear it a several feet away. My questions:
-what might this be?
-I don't really care about this, but would it affect resale? (is this common with CD players or a genuine flaw?)
-the unit is still under warranty. Anyone hazard a guess if NAD would fix this?
Thanks for your suggestions

Does it give the strange sound when playing a disc? The it must be the servo action. You probably could make it less audible by putting some absorbing feet under the player (resonance damping). BTW asking NAD costs nothing 🙂
This model uses a inverter to power a fluorescent backlight, these can buzz/whine. When you go into standby its turning off the display.
Attached is the location of the transformer (RED), its on the main PCB just behind the button PCB, You could stick some blu-tac or something similar on it to see if it changes the level/tone.
Hope this helps

Thank you both very much for your replies--and the most helpful diagram. Since posting I spoke to a NAD dealer who encouraged me to bring in unit, since it's still covered by warranty. But if they won't fix it, I will certainly try your suggestions and report back--best wishes AB
