does anybody know how to connect an external transistor on a 3 legged chip regulator ?
perhaps there is more than one way to do that ?

I know that there are such schematics in
regulated power supply - threads
But I searched the web.

Sure there is more than one way to acheive this.
R1 sets the current limit for the IC.
0.7volts/5ohm= 0.140 Ampere
So at currents over like 0.140 A the transistor
starts to help with current.
