i'm trying to be good by using an external img host to direct link to but when my post was quoted the img link was included, i presume this causes another hit to the host site, burning the limited bandwidth they are offering, can img links be disabled in quotes?
You can edit them out manually, but I suppose a lot of people here don't know the first thing about coding and that's bordering on it. (I.e. better to leave the quoted stuff alone than to royally screw up something ya don't know how to change...)

He means embedded images. Attachments never appear in quotes (although it would be a nice addition, as a link, so you can refer to it without jumping back a page or two).
