I just bought a pair of these and I'm wondering where the tweeters are crossed in. The rest of the speakers are pretty ratty so I really just bought them for the tweeters. They sound real nice on things like piano and accoustic guitar and I'm thinking of using them as helper tweeters on a pair of Danish 12" full rangers.

the ones that i have cross over at 800 hz to the ten inch woofer. i recommend a higher x-over, but they do sound good in the midrange. i'm planning on going with a 1500 hz x-over to a pair of ten inchers in an open baffel. anyway these things sound sweet for any treble duties. by the way sounds like you have the amt 1bs which have the dipolar elements let me know.

Thanks for the help. I would not have thought 800hz but I was just listening to a jazz sax CD and it seemed to all be coming from the ribbons. The bottom of the speakers say AMT-1. The serial number is 34508. I've got them sitting on 24" tall stands so they look a little silly but they sound really nice. The tweeter controls are stuck on 'bright' so I had to switch preamps so I could pad them down a bit. I'd imagine a bit more volume available with a higher Xover point. It sounds like using them with my Danish 12"s would be a little pointless so I might just need new cabs for this setup. If I need new woofers I'll just have to find them. These things sound pretty sweet.

I forgot to mention that these have ten inch woofers and the tweeters are the original big black cubes with the laminated magnet structure. Funning thing about the guy who was selling these is that he had one Ohm F that he wanted $100 for. He sold me the Heils for $25/pair.
Interesting thread:
I am in the San Jose, CA area and I have a pair of AMT Heils I'd like to sell: these have 7.5 Lb. magnets and are installed in a pair of ESS Eclipse Performance M-102 Speakers.
I'd sell the Heils for $75 + shipping from 95037
I'd be glad to sell the entire speakers if someone wants to rescue them; they are just too heavy and big (42" high) to ship.
Cabinets are GREAT; 10" woofers and 10" Passive radiators need re-edged; I'd only be interested in local pick-up, but would be glad to negotiate a deal to save the complete speakers from oblivion.
Have the grilles too.
Anybody interested?
