I'm selling out.. truth is I wish I was good at building stuff, but I'm not.. I can make things work.. mess with things and modifying but not completely building something from scratch..

I had purchased a 2.5 inch lcd screen to make my own projector
but damn it.. damn box keeps falling apart.. cant get the mirror to stay in place.. :dead:

So what you guys think...

Epson S1 Infocus X1

price: $999 $999
cntrst: 400:1 (ughh) 2000:1
lumns: 1200 1100
bulbprice: $160 $250 (ughh)
bulblife: 2000hrs. 3000hrs
weight: 7.0 lbs 6.8

I've also have heard from reviews that the Inf X1 has some kind of rainbow effect. cant find any reviews on the S1
oh and I also heard x1 has some kind of shutter blind that can
make it into 16:9 widescreen fromat.. from the menu.. stopping
the bottom and top borders.. when watching dvds.

BTW.. Just about how long is 2000 hours.. whith extreme use..

hey Dman, the rainbow effect is only found on DLP projectors it has to do with them having a color wheel that spins around and some people being able to see it, I would reccomend you find a place locally that has a dlp projector and watch it for 5 min and see if you can see the rainbow effect( if you can DLP isnt for you its annoying) so then i would look at lcd projectors as for the bulb prices the one is more but it lasts longer so its preaty much a wash as for 2,000 hrs thats the equivalent of watching your projector 5.5 hrs a day for every day in the year. Hope that helped some.

2000 hours is 83 days... or approximately 1000 movies. 🙂 I'm not sure whether frequent powering on/off matters... but I'm sure it'd shorten the life of the bulb less than the 2000 hours. Unless the 2k hours takes that into account. Doesn't seem too bad though.. I'd probably go with the X1.

I'm looking really hard at the X1

Really appreciate yas help

But damn.. cost of lights is the issue with me.. low budget
ya know.. (cept i'm willing to spend $999 at first)

S1.. costs $313 for 4000hrs of bulb life ($157.39x2) at yesmicro.com

X1 costs $342 for 4000hrs of bulb life ($256.40/3 + 256.40) at shopperwiz.com

only around a $30 dollar difference wich is well worth it for the better contrast and wide screen mode feature.

But whenever the bulbs die out it be alot easier for me to come up
with $160 then $257 to get the new bulb.. just can't decide..
driving me crazy. (crazier I mean)
