To answer various instigations from forum members in the polemic of 'does THD..' I re-open this subject by submitting samples of audio recorded through the ADC of the Emu0404 to try to hear any differences in the various outputs of :
1. Dac of computer
2. Dac Ak4396 through ecc88 tube of Broskie unbalancer
3. Through Ak4396 + 6BL7 8 Watt tube amp.
4. Through Ak4396 + SS JLH modified amplifier
5. Through computer + SS JLH modified amplifier
Everything will be done at optimal levels for fairness and quality, (amps same power, dacs same output voltage, ADC same gain)

I can't remember how to connect it
I tried with 3 wires, ground and it gets the overload, nothing records
Can't remember which two wires to connect in the XLR input

the Files are time and almost same RMS, but can't totally since both are different.
You can use the substraction tool to see the residuals.
To me it lose quality going through the ADC because I had to reduce the digital output to 10% not to overload it.

If someone could save the audio file from 'sweet dreams' on youtube video clip I could send the tracks I recorded and do a substract to see what is going on in the 'perfect' dac vs the tube buffered dac.
Both outputs are different!!! but no way to conclude anything so far.

Anyone can get the MP3 from youtube? I have the flac version I need the sound from the youtube video, Cant remember how to get it.
I think some will say the Emu boxes aren't the greatest, though I've used my 0202 for a long time with no complaints. It's also hard to do this with anything but the best input signals. Anything from Youtube, or an MP3, is going to be suspect. I actually think you'd need to record some live music with a very good mic to really prove anything. Then, of course, you have the question of what device to record it through!
Stock it is a very bad dac in terms of sound, inferior to most mainstream stuff you can find anywhere
When I installed the tube output directly to the chip it was to my liking, I am just trying to see what the difference is in noise/thd from a typical computer hifi sound card.
There is a difference, I just need to substract the original wave from the video to get results and listen to the 'noise' both version add or substracts to the source on youtube.
I am not looking for qualitative , just to get an idea of what is the difference with broskie tube vs cheap opamps.

I could take the original track and convert it to mp3 myself, but it risk no being exactly the same than the sample.
I need to compare bit/bit samples

Can anyone help on how to properly record a song through the microphone input of the emu0404 with a RCA wire loop.
It does a lot of problems and the input signal seems too high

Hi gabdx
I converted the audio from the official youtube video to mp3 for you.
You can download it from here:

Don't use the Cannon connection, it is low Rin.Can anyone help on how to properly record a song through the microphone input of the emu0404 with a RCA wire loop.
Use the TRS instead which is high Rin.

Thanks a lot! I figured out how to record the song in audacity from the original file from music library (uncompressed) using the player direct stream inside computer...
I connected it as per bottom image but it is a 3 prongs into the microphone input of the dac which has a phantom 48v
It really screw up things when it turns on, and it is difficult to get the signal properly attenuated or not in listening mode which loops
I'll try again with patience

I don't have a trs to cannon adaptor now, I don't understand the low resistance or high resistance, I can place headphones in the circuit which will attenuated a little the signal but the DC... lol. 48v into my headphones wasn't good nor it is in the adc inputs
I don't know, the 48v seems to turn itself on , I think I'll place a 10uf cap in series with the signal

Ahhhh ok I see!!! sorry for my ignorance this will greatly help I have I think all the adaptors for this
I just got both tracks aligned bit by bit , recorded is 24bit 96bpm both record and sample.
The only difference is that I had to digitally reduce volume to 65% for the recording.
With my headphones I cannot tell the difference between recorded and original

You need an attenuating resistor network to record the amps.To answer various instigations from forum members in the polemic of 'does THD..' I re-open this subject by submitting samples of audio recorded through the ADC of the Emu0404 to try to hear any differences in the various outputs of :

Fair would also be to have a real speaker load connected.
I am just at step 1 and 2.
