how do i find a way to e-mail a member? (yes, this is an eedjit question for a variety of possible reasons.) thank you for your help- anyone?
Simple answer is that you can't unless you ask them for their email. You can however use the forum's DM (direct message facility... the envelope icon top right) to contact them but of course that relies on them either being around on the forum or them picking up the email that gets automatically sent to them telling them they have a message. Email addresses remain private at all times.
thank you mooly.
that's of course what i had understood, but then, I tried to reply to a thread started by Mod=Planet10,
in the swap meet, and told him that i had tried to dm him with my contact info, and he replied that had had turned off dm's,
and that i would need to e-mail him. so, i am at a loss as to what to do really.

You can tag a member with the @ sign, like @planet10 (you'll get a dropdown from where you can select the name). This will notify him that he's been tagged in a post, which I have done and he should be along to respond.
Meanwhile, his profile page has his website, and the website has an email link right on the homepage.

Thank you Sangram. I did try his website, but the email link only allows gmail accounts, which I don't have.
I posted this fact to the thread, and have no replies, so again, I thought I must be missing something.
So, it appears that I may have to join the 21st century with a g-mail account. Lord. I was trying to do my due
civil disobedience and refuse all things google. but, well, all good intentions must surrender to the powers that be at the end. and that's okay.
thank you again, Sangram.

One could take the view that the member isn't very keen on being contacted! (no DMs, no emails unless gmail)

Hi
The default for email addresses on webpages is to use an email link that begins with "mailto:"
You can right click the link, and copy the email address (an option is presented in the menu that appears) and paste it in the recipient space in your email while composing, do remove the mailto: prefix if it persists (I checked, it doesn't in my case).
It works like any other link, and does not in fact require a gmail account to use. Email links have been like this since at least 1997, since the launch of Internet Explorer. Before that, we had to write them down on pieces of paper.
Dave will show up. You have to give it a bit of time, you should hear from him in the next day or two. It's entirely possible that responses can take up to 24-48 hours, even for regular members.
...and that i would need to e-mail him. so, i am at a loss as to what to do really.
Sorry. I used to have all my websites in my signature, but with the pandemic changed it to somethign encouraging, guess i should change it back to make it easier for people to find my email.
