My replacement LCD just arrived via UPS, it's an emachine e15ts - now the 3rd lcd (first was iffy to begin with, old, I shorted it out on accident - 2nd the ribbon cables went because of fiddling too much)

I did a search, this particular model was manufactured in 2003 - 2 years newer than my other panels. Contrast ratio said to be ~200 - not great, but the panel's response times seems much better. The brightness is at max at the moment I think it looks a little washed out - nothing came up on stripping this particular model. I'm not too enthusiastic about the cable - it has integrated power in the vga. I'm a little worried about what I'll encounter when I pull it apart.

hope to post here with some good news.

alright, good luck man.

i'm trying to make a desicion about which one to get that is DIY friendly.

i broke Two. (one was my fault) the third lcd was not DIY friendly so i'm selling it.

after reading through the forums. it seems to me that the CMV CT 520D is the most DIY friendly. but they are never available used for some reason. brand new they're only 168.00 so i'm kinda thinking about it.

the samnsung syncmasters. (especially 152n) are ok but they command the most money even when used. (like 200 dollars used on ebay)

any other good lcd's? that are SUPER friendly?

I took off the base and backing, exposed the controler card, invertor board, and wires that went to the lcd. It appears that it does not need an FFC cable extender. All the wires enter from the bottom - or was it top?

I'm not going to fully dismantle it now, but am going to put it back together - I had a slight issue with some tape, those tiny plastic tabs on the ffc cables are a pain - the ones from the controller board to the lcd - 20 and 40 pin or thereabouts.

amazing, first time I've ever actually taken something completely apart and put it back together with all the screws and have it still working.

Guess I didn't damage it. Aside from the VGA and power issues - with the LCD flipped the circuit will hang upside down - I should be able to use the existing metal cage to prevent interference I was having - there shouldn't be any problems mounting.

As for the controls. they are located in 2 areas - the power in front - nice blue LED. and a 4 button up/down/select/menu control which is to the back side. I'm sure I could easily reroute these to the back of my projector box. It's a real 12"x9" screen, I won't be able to use the bezel without some creative cutting.

Going to test it some more on high motion to see how it handles. Seems to scroll webpages with less flicker than some.

Are you sure that e15ts is the model name for the lcd monitor and not the whole computer?

i tried to search for one since you say it's DIY friendly and i can't even find one...

it figures that this one is so DIY friendly since i can't even find one on ebay.....

i stripped an emachines e15t for my project and had to extend the ribbon, the one between the horiz. and vert. boards on the lcd are made to mount on the back of the backlight and are connected with this 90degree angle cable, so i just soldered in my own extensions and it works great, not exactly diy friendly, but not too bad either

do you happen to know the contrast stats on your LCD? Mine is really low 200:1, I had hoped to get a better panel since it was newer - 2003. No ghosting, but color could be a bit better, the older panels I was using just seemed much better. Oh well I have bigger problems like tons of dust and dirt which I can't get rid of. I'm just picky, but extremely happy that it finally got it working 100 times better than the previous nights
