elmo 285s...a newbies dream?

So it turns out that my job was cleaning out some storerooms, and one of the things being thrown out was a brand new, Elmo 285s still sitting in it's case (what a waste). Has anyone tried this one or seen any reviews? I've tried searching the boards with no luck.

Secondly, if it turns out I can use this, I can spend a little more on a projection panel. Any good $200 panels out there?
