I remember that the old Electronics Today International magazine had a strange omnidirectional speaker project - I cannot recall the details... I think there was an upwards-facing speaker plus more... I have quite a few old copies of ETI mags but not this one (and I only think it was ETI - it may have been another Australian magazine - and might have been late 1970s or early 1980's... sorry that doesn't narrow it down much). Does anybody recall this design? Know the issue that it was it? How exotic was it?
I don't think the design took on, so I guess there was some downside to it... any ideas what?

Could have been EA, I remember it, 5" upwards facing whizzer cone driver with a polystyrene disperser IIRC. I think the FR curve was like a roller coaster.....

I remember buying just for that project alone! 😉
It was your small 5" or 6" paper woofer in a Transmission line box with alternating baffles of ones with a hole in it and ones that have a smaller dimension than the inside perimeter of the box.
