I disected a cheap desktop mic and am befuddled as to why these diodes are there, and what they do. The cap is SMD, and it appears the diodes are not zeners; they conduct with .5v drop using diode tester.
The mic works well. I recorded a guitar piece through an onboard PC sound card and it was surprisingly good.
Any light that could be shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Switching between internal and external bias? If it is an electret it does not need any bias, so maybe there is a built-in FET preamp too?
