Hi,
Saw these on Ebay and wondered if these would actually make a decent SE project?

Mullard EL38

They look DA_n cool and From the specs it looks possible. But im wondering about replacements also. pretty hard to find?

Seems I read someplce expect about 25 solid watts of outstanding tones.

Any info would be helpful.

They're an old sweep tube, not terribly different than 6L6s. I've used them in push-pull with a 6.6K load and got about 25 watts. Nice tubes and usually the prices are attractive.

EDIT: Looked at the Ebay ad. Three tubes? Not very attractive. Michael Marx has them, I think, for less money and in larger quantity.

If there were 4, they'd make an even better PP project.

Not disgustingly rare, but not common either. I have a whole bunch and I'm not sharing...they're mine, hear, all mine.... mwahahahahahaha

Not in SE you're not gonna get 25W of power: plate disspiation is only 25W.
They do sound good though.

So,
Safe to assume that about 12-15 watts is achievable in a SE configuration?
Then I would have 1 spare and a pair to run until i find more.

Im thinking that 12-15 true watts will be plenty of power in my home/listening area.
