So... I own a pair of:
Jordan JXR6HD
Jordan Eikona
And I'm considering adding a pair of JX-150 drivers to the collection.
I have found a seller with two new-in-box units. The price is $272 each, delivered - which is steep; but then again, they are probably some of the last NIB JX-150s out there.
I like to experiment with my drivers. So I would most likely build something to use them full-rage, and in combinations with my other Jordan units.
Are they worth it? Or can I find a better match for my other other Jordan drivers for the same/less?

well it sounds like you're a Jordan complete-ist, so I'd probably go for it
remember, you can never get too much of what you don't really need

I own other drivers, many other drivers, actually. But I'm on a full-range kick right now. After Jordan's I'll be trying some from MarkAudio.
So what do you think of the JX-150? What would you buy instead?

Pricey. I did get $400 for my esentially new pair.

The actual price of the drivers is $203.73 each. Problem is, they're in Europe. Shipping here to the states is quite expensive. About $100 euros.
The JX150 is a good match for the JXR6, especially if running via a passive crossover.
As an alternative, the Visaton AL130 has been used, doubled up, in a MTM arrangement
AL 130 - 8 Ohm
hifisound eShop - E.J.JORDAN MINIUM - KOMPLETT-BAUSATZ S
and EAD make a slightly different version of the JX150
EAD Webshop - EAD E170
which has a conventional rear suspension. It's more expensive than the JX150 and you probably get hit with the same courier charge to the USA.

Thanks for the thoughtful response, Colin.
Anyone else have suggestions for alternative bass units?

Hi Greg - That looks like the driver that UK designer Tom Evans used in his Jordan JX92S-based speaker

Happy Holidazes and all that jive!
Dunno. All I remember now is that the M8N appeared to be a cheap Jordan knock-off that was a great bang/buck performer according to whoever it was I did the MLTL for.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! To everyone else, try to enjoy these two days, despite the traffic!
Wow! Is it really possible that TEAD used a $34 speaker in a $9.5K pair of speakers? It looks exactly the same, and from the description, the driver has the same peak at 2kHz and the same cone material.
Has anyone here heard these two drivers (the JX-150 and M8N)?
I could buy 16 HIVI M8N drivers for the price of a pair of Jordan units...

The M8N and M8A are highly regarded despite their low price; I'd imagine its possible to cross low enough with the small Jordan's to avoid the 2 kHz issue?
Yes, it should be very easy to deal with the rise.
I'm leaning toward buying a pair of both drivers and comparing. I'm fairly certain I can sell the Jordan's and recoup a decent chunk of my money if I want to.
I want to try them in sealed boxes, as well as a "Hegeman" enclosure. I have a pair of his Model 1A speakers, and their bass is phenomenally clean.

Well, some years ago I auditioned a highly regarded ~ $80 k 'audiophile' speaker system that had similarly priced drivers. To a great extent, speaker design is about making the right choices to meet the needs of the intended app. That, or spending a lot of time/$$$ on XO design to 'force' drivers to 'play nice' with each other, which is what is often done, though DSP is the future.

I used the smaller Jordan JX125 with the earlier JX53. So similar drivers if not exact. They crossed over at 500Hz and I used a first order crossover. Higher order would certainly avoid the 2KHz peak on the M8N.
FWIW, I'd be inclined to go with the JX150 simply because they're the same material, same design philosophy etc so with the right crossover will blend seamlessly. My two-way Jordans sounded very close to a single driver system and had zero crossover intervention to shape the individual responses.
Thanks Colin. I think I will buy both and see which I like best. I'll report on my findings once that project is under in motion.

Sounds like solid wisdom to me. I tend to think price is a terrible way to judge quality. But in the realm of the ultra expensive, in my experience, "appearances" are just as important to the buyer as the result.
For a non-speaker example: if Steinway and Sons discovered tomorrow that they could make a better quality plate for their pianos using aluminum instead of cast iron, they would never do it.
Datasheet figures - lossy inductance/series inductance.
I'm trying to ascertain the correct figure for the JX150NG voice coil inductance for the purposes of calculating a suitable impedance equalisation circuit. The datasheet gives separate figures for series inductance (Ls) 445uH, and lossy series inductance (Lp) 603uH.
Does anyone know which is the appropriate figure to use please?
Many thanks.
