I am looking to build my first amp and/or guitar pedal...what would the best one be or waht are some simple ones out there that are easy to build and cheep to make(i dont have a set budget, but i dont want it to cost too much). I am looking for an amp that is like a 'mini' one that just has a vew watts(like a practice amp). also if its a practice one are there any out there that can be ran off of batteries? What about guitar pedals? A distortion one would be nice but any info would be greatly appreciated

also, can this stuff all be purchaced at radio shack?

Great links ...

here are my picks for good, easy and relatively cheap d.i.y. low-watt-tube-amp's-projects.

AX84
Moonlight
Adam Alpern's Micro-Champ

In the kit dept., the Gilmore Jr. is hard to beat...

Sorry i do not have the links but, a Google search should do you well...

Good luck!

You've been warned!

Gary Gilmore is to be avoided. From personal experiece I can attest that he is excellent at taking funds and impossible to get product out of.

Fourteen months afer funds cleared, I am still waiting for a Gilmore Jr. A search on the web will find quite a few comments where people consider Gary to be just another scamming low life. Several mail fraud cases have apparently been filed against him and his company.

No ill feelings toward him or his business. Just another one of those vendors that come off the active list and doesn't receive free advertising.

You should actually thank him Jam, if he had supplied the amp you would have been forced to listen to me play guitar; which is kinda like being forced to endure Vogon Poetry.

i'm sorry to hear that...

i build from scratch so i do not have any experience dealing with the man...
but his kits look good on paper.

I like .5 to 3 watts amps, for you can dial in clean or dirty with a slight rotation of old volume knob.

I think Guyatronic now sell his kits...

Folks should know that you can have a good pedal sound, without a pedal, for the price of...a pedal.

try this...

Audio amplifier projects, by R.A. Penfold. it has some good, cheap easy to build stuff, a guitar pre amp, a 6watt amp powered by batterys, and a 20/30 watt amp with mains power. pluss tone control, mixers and stuff like that, all built from stuff you can buy from radio shack!!! take a look coz at about £5 from
PC publishing its gota be woth a look as it is a teaching tool, explaining how and why the stuff works aswell as how to build it, so you can play around with the circuits once youve got what you want from it. see you later, steve.. ..

Guitar Amps does NOT need to be stereo,
but you can of course use two channels/loudspeakers.
This way you could use your guitar amp for playing stereo music.

Wouldnt a one or two channels chip amp
LM3875 be a perfect choice

- cheap
- easy to build
- very compact, minibox can be sized like CD, compact disc record
- for 'a few Watts', you can buy a smaller trafo
- has better sound quality than LM386

I think you should consult the Chip Amps forum.
Many have built a nice chip amp as their first project.
