e∑ in OB Fostex FE108e∑

Hi, Guys

I did a search and came up with many ideas and directions, but nothing concrete.. I thought I had seen at one time the 108 used in an OB designed by MJK, but it was the 103 it would appear..

A few have had good luck using the 108, but they go back a few years now..

So I guess my question is; Has anyone or is anyone using the 108 on a OB, or is there already a worked out diy plan for said system? I did read that some said the 108 is louder than the Alpha 15'' when used together on a OB, and it needs padding down etc..

I am thinking on giving the OB style a try to hear the flavor that many enjoy with them, and how the OB with 108's will compare to my inverted BIB's..

I'm figuring from all I've read, that an OB with 108's done properly should give a nice bit more overall SQ, compared to the inverted BIB cabs?

I have used the Fostex FE108E∑ sigmas in a few designs. Transmission and ported cabinets. I have not used them in a O.B. Design. I know the (qts) has to be a certain number for O.B. design. The new FE103NV drivers I have no idea how it work in a O.B. design? I know from my experience the Sigma line has a more of everything that the Fe series is missing. The fostex FF85wk is my go to driver in the fostex line for midrange and upper range. The Mark Audios the CHN 50s are my favorite of all the drivers he has made. I would use them for the midrange and upper range. Very smooth sounding right out the box. No brightness or peakness from a metal driver. I would say no one can touch this driver for the price or the quality in sound for $20.00 each. Good luck. Maybe one day I can come around to building a O.B.? Jeff

Did MJK not use FE108e∑ in his seminal passive OB article.

We built it with FF85k, FE108e∑ is a bit too sensitive (could be padded down).

Almost any FR can be used as a midTweeter, the XO will be above the mass corner, Qts makes little difference.

If you want bass out of FE108e∑ Aiko is your best bet.

The SB 15OB350 woofer does well on a basic baffle even as small as 50cm wide. At 95dB sensitivity in the bass expect a few dB loss on the low pass filter, this puts it at the target response to match the 90dB midrange sensitivity of the FE108EZ. In other words, you won’t need to pad the Fostex down. Maybe try Xkitz analogue active filter for a pretty slick setup.

What is your experience on the Xkitz analogue active filter? If you have any you can share with me
