DVD to VGA question

I'm building a projector, and like many I'd like to connect my Progressive scan DVD player via component to my 15" LCD screen. I saw this Item
In Ebay for 9.99, but it does require you to set the LCD/projector to accecpt component in. Would this work with a LCD screen? Or do I have to get the $60.00 plus version?

Thanks,

Don

Nope, it needs a projector or lcd with a controller that supports it. You could get a transcoder, but they are usually VERY expensive. Your best bet is to get a dvd player with VGA out. I remember that some COBY brand dvd players have 480p VGA out and cost around 30-40$

Easy, you just need a scan converter or scaler, to convert to the resolution of your screen 1024 x 768 i'm guessing, make sure it's compatable with TFT/LCD monitors or projectors, as old ones converted tv to vga at 50hz, and your monitor will need a min of 60hz.

There fairly cheap, less than 100 GBP so about 160USD for very good ones, ok ones start for much less, most have remotes as well ect

here is a page to give you an idea of what you need

sorry it's a UK web page

http://www.scancom.ltd.uk/up_converters.htm

Hope it works

You will note that some only support CRT Computer monitors, where as some support all, you need one that supports all montors.

As Easy as that, the VTB-100 Progressive Scan Video to XGA Scaler looks really good.

Hope this helps

James

p.s Don't bother spending extra to get a monitor that has video inputs, as with most Cheaper video projectos, the scaling hardware is quite poor in them compared with an external converter, as there designed to display computer images, where the processing is done by the computer graphics card! Most only have crude deinterlace, and no smoothing ect.
