Dumb question about combining drivers

So I am recomissioning a pair of large soffit mounted monitors in my recording studio. Two way cabinets each with two 15s and a horn. Originally each driver was powered individually. It occurs to me that I could source higher quality amps if I only had to power four channels instead of six. What (if any) are the drawbacks to wiring the woofers in parallel (assuming an amp that can comfortably handle 4 ohms)? Drivers will be JBL 2226h.

Yes. Active crossover. Original system used TAD 1601s, so I landed on the 2226 as what seemed like a decent compromise without spending a fortune. Certainly open to suggestions though if there is something closer for less than a grand a piece. I'll also be running a powered sub to make up some of the bottom (since I have a nice Genelec gathering dust).

Nothing besides amp load. I'm assuming the woofers are in a common cavity?

For crossover, you might consider Home | miniDSP, I've seen a number of threads about that stuff. It's my gut feeling horns in particular could use time alignment, though projects I worked on never involved that. But from woofers to horn, it would be good to have a very flexible crossover to really tune. Ah, I see you have a crossover? But once you change the drivers, that's not valid any more.

Phase: They were custom built for the studio when it opened in 1978 by Steve Durr. They look like Westlake TM1s but without the HF driver below the horn. The TADs were pulled out when they sold the studio off in 05. I have been led to believe that all the original components are still around, but would almost certainly be well outside of what makes sense to spend on what will likely end up being secondary monitors (I would be very surprised if these see more use than our Barefoots). As for time aligning the horn I had not considered that, but I like the idea. Haven't landed on a crossover yet, but so far everything I'm looking at has the capability to do that.
